09:12 am - conversation post-conversation (about epic future literary pursuits)
Patrick: we're back
Moi: welcome back!
Laoshi: you're bathing *now*? you must have heard our car come in and run to the shower
Moi: erm, no. not really. men shi le ma? (were you bored to death?)
Laoshi: men shi le, but I bought lots of yummy things from the wedding dinner!
Moi: ahh! what is it?
Laoshi: Not telling you!
Patrick: She brought you back lobster!
Laoshi: grr

XDDD

Ida and I, on account of Life being so Amusing, are going to write little prose stories about our grand Singapore melodramas. Oh, how Singapore screws lives up! It makes one fall over, laughing. No wonder we all have a rather  black sense of humour :D

Update: Oh my!! I just found out my Laoshi did all the beautiful crochet work adorning the plants and beautiful wood in the house! That is too incredible! (and terribly unfair! She cooks, gardens, knits, sews among various other things and has impeccable fashion sense. And everything in her hosue is so pretty :3 It is now my personal aspiration to learn at least 90 percent of those things in the next year).
She: you didn't know I was that clever? Your Laoshi is a treasury of secrets! Hee...
Me: you're too chong ming (clever)!
Her: No, it's not cleverness. It's no use being clever! I'm very hardworking! I have to be doing something!
Me: Oooo... you *must* teach me! (melts into puddle of 'everything's so prettiness XD)
Her: I have to teach you everything? I should charge a fee,,,

Hmm, everyone's so busy of late :3. It seems the New Year has bombarded everyone I know with little dramatic explosions. Heee... More solitary dinners, while my Laoshi gets bored to death even further (thankfully, above-mentioned crocheting skills will save the day). Ah well! More time spent in the kitchen tomorrow while she makes a last minute epic dinner o_____O.

Update ii: Ohhh epic dinner has changed to Teabreak with black sesame dessert (of which I haven't partaken of before! How exciting!) What a relief for all...

Have a song, my dear friends: Yukiguni- Tokyo Jihen

Lunch: Dumpling soup (self-wrapped dumplings) with cabbage and bit of pasta. Yum.

Dinner: Salmon steamed, tofu stir-fried with assorted veggies and scallops, egg omelette and spinach egg soup

1) Marinate scallops with oyster (?) sauce, salt to taste, pepper and bit of water and flour.
2) Fry with a bit of oil in pot till half-cooked.
3) Toss vegetables in and fry, then put in tofu. Add scallops and a bit of sweetened vinegar.
4) Add salt to taste, and done :D
(Very fast, once you pre-prepare ingredients)

Vegetable soup is easy: Toss vegetables in with bit of oil in soup; beat egg with salt, sauce and pepper;

Preparation is an important business for us. It's almost ritualistic.
The house philosophy:
Always make things beautiful before eating. Eat only till you're 70% full. Eat slowly.
(So you can savour each mouthful. Why make yourself suffer by eating too much/putting dirt inside yourself? What goes into you should nourish you.)
Oh, and most importantly, *always* leave space for dessert! (and other yummy things)

Oui.

Laoshi is off to elaborate dinner today! They went late, because wedding dinners are lengthy and dull.

And pretty lace thing:

Other day's dinner: Oxtail leftovers with steamed fillet, Broccoli and handmade meatballs and that Winter melon soup from other day's epic dinner.
Right is Patrick and Laoshi's dinner: Pasta done in soup. Yummy stuff.

It's amazing what a bit of planning can do in making cooking easier!

(Wonton soup for lunch today. Of which I helped made. We like to wrap wontons on some Saturdays and freeze them so we have a constant variety of things to eat. Leftover meat can be used to make meatballs + other things.
I think Salmon fillet is for dinner. Wedding dinner for them, so solitary dinner again. These holidays have been so very busy, in a good way)

10:48 am - 3rd jan

Today's breakfast: Birthday buns stolen from dinner tables by Laoshi. Hee.
On left are Laoshi's favourite orchids. Patrick got them for her as a Christmas present (hence, gleeful squees and lots of jumping). I got her a mini-baby orchid. I'm excited about what flowers will bloom, too :3

Dinner from yesterday. Tres simple. Leftover crab omelette from New Year's dinner at Patrick's parent's house. Fishcake restaurant leftovers, braised (?) Broccoli in chicken soup, and winter melon soup with bits of scallop, prawn, chicken/pork, and mushrooms. Yumm.

Handmade carrot cake! From another day's breakfast.
